Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Selective inhibition of phosphodiesterase 4
- Presence of dioxolane group
- Relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle
- Decreased affinities towards adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
- Inhibition of platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibition of leukotriene production
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for children over 12 years of age: 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Dosage for children 6-12 years of age: 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
Interaction
- Not to be administered with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
- Caution with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration of drugs like erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, influenza vaccine and propanolol may affect hepatic clearance
- Phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking may affect clearance
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- During lactation

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Animal tests suggest no interference with pre and postnatal growth
- Insufficient clinical evidence about effects during pregnancy
- Contraindicated during lactation
- No effect on patient's alertness
Precautions & Warnings
- Factors reducing hepatic clearance of xanthine derivatives should be monitored
- Caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, elderly, severe hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, chronic corpulmonale, congestive heart failure, liver disease, peptic ulcer, and renal impairment
- No risk of addiction or dependence
Overdose Effects
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias
- Tonic-clonic seizure
- Symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse
