Pharmacology

  • Combination of magaldrate and simethicone
  • Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid quickly
  • Magaldrate decreases activity of pepsin in gastric secretion
  • Simethicone enables gas bubble coalescence

Dosage & Administration

  • 1-4 chewable tablets after meals
  • 1-4 chewable tablets at bedtime
  • 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension after meals
  • 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension at bedtime

Interaction

  • Avoid use with Tetracycline
  • May reduce bioavailability of certain drugs
  • May slow absorption of propranolol
  • May slow absorption of isoniazid
  • May slow absorption of prednisolone
  • May slow absorption of naproxen

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to magnesium and aluminium
  • Impaired renal function

Side Effects

  • Uncommon gastrointestinal side-effects
  • Possible diarrhea with excessive consumption
  • Possible constipation with excessive consumption
  • Possible regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use in pregnancy if indicated
  • Avoid excessive dosage during pregnancy
  • May pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care required in decreased kidney function
  • Care required in hypophosphataemia
  • Care required for weak individuals
