Indications

Pharmacology

  • Combination of magaldrate and simethicone
  • Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid quickly
  • Magaldrate decreases activity of pepsin
  • Simethicone enables gas bubbles to coalesce

Dosage & Administration

  • 1-4 chewable tablets after meals and at bedtime
  • 2-4 teaspoonfuls of suspension after meals and at bedtime

Interaction

  • Not to be used with tetracycline
  • May reduce bioavailability or absorption of several drugs

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium and aluminium
  • Contraindicated in patients with impaired renal functions

Side Effects

  • Uncommon gastrointestinal side-effects
  • Potential for diarrhea, constipation, or regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • May be used in pregnancy if indicated with caution
  • May pass into breast milk without reported issues

Precautions & Warnings

  • Care should be taken in decreased kidney function
  • Care should be taken in hypophosphataemia
  • Care should be taken in weak people

Overdose Effects

  • Overdosage is a rare case
