Pharmacology

  • Combination of magaldrate and simethicone
  • Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid quickly
  • Magaldrate decreases pepsin activity in gastric secretion
  • Simethicone coalesces gas bubbles for relief from flatulence

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet dosage: 1-4 chewable tablets
  • Tablet dosage: 20 to 60 minutes after meals
  • Tablet dosage: at bedtime
  • Suspension dosage: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml)
  • Suspension dosage: 20 to 60 minutes after meals
  • Suspension dosage: at bedtime

Interaction

  • Not to be used with Tetracycline
  • May cause reduced bio-availability of propranolol
  • May cause slower absorption of isoniazid
  • May cause slower absorption of prednisolone
  • May cause slower absorption of naproxen

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aluminium
  • Contraindicated in patients with impaired renal functions

Side Effects

  • Uncommon gastrointestinal side-effects
  • Possible diarrhea with excessive consumption
  • Possible constipation with excessive consumption
  • Possible regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • May be used in pregnancy if indicated
  • Excessive dosage should be avoided during pregnancy
  • May pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Take care in decreased kidney function
  • Take care in hypophosphatemia
  • Take care in weak individuals

Overdose Effects

  • Overdosage is a rare case
