Pharmacology
- Contains magaldrate and simethicone
- Magaldrate neutralizes gastric acid
- Magaldrate decreases pepsin activity
- Simethicone helps coalesce gas bubbles
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet form: 1-4 chewable tablets after meals
- Tablet form: 1-4 chewable tablets at bedtime
- Suspension form: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml) after meals
- Suspension form: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (10-20 ml) at bedtime
Interaction
- Incompatible with Tetracycline
- May reduce bioavailability of propranolol
- May reduce bioavailability of isoniazid
- May reduce bioavailability of prednisolone
- May reduce bioavailability of naproxen
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to magnesium
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aluminium
- Contraindicated in patients with impaired renal functions
Side Effects
- Occasional gastrointestinal side-effects
- Excessive consumption may lead to diarrhea
- Excessive consumption may lead to constipation
- Excessive consumption may lead to regurgitation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- May be used in pregnancy if indicated
- Excessive dosage should be avoided during pregnancy
- May pass into breast milk with no reported problems in nursing babies
Precautions & Warnings
- Care should be taken in decreased kidney function
- Care should be taken in hypophosphatemia
- Care should be taken in weak individuals

- Overdosage with this formulation is rare
