Indications
- Management of fibromyalgia
Pharmacology
- Potent inhibitor of neuronal norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake
Dosage
- Recommended dose: 100 mg/day
- Dosing may be titrated based on efficacy and tolerability
Administration
- Should be taken with food
- Preferably taken during meals
Interaction
- Increased risk of bleeding with aspirin, NSAIDs, warfarin
- Increased CNS effects with centrally-acting drugs
- Increased risk of serotonin syndrome and NMS-like reactions with serotonergic drugs
Contraindications
- Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
- Concomitant use with MAOI
Side Effects
- Increased heart rate
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Migraine
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Patients should notify physician if they become pregnant
- Advise patients to notify physician if breast feeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Patients with major depressive disorder or other psychiatric disorders
- Avoid abrupt withdrawal
- Severe hepatic and moderate to severe renal impairment
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustments for severe renal impairment
- Not recommended in pediatric patients
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include increased BP and changes in level of consciousness
- Symptomatic treatment with gastric lavage and activated charcoal
