Indications

Pharmacology
- Histamine H2-receptor antagonist
- Inhibition of gastric acid secretion
- Slowly reversible H2-receptor antagonist activity
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose: Famotidine 20 mg twice daily
- Oral administration before bedtime
- Dosage adjustment according to age and symptoms
- Healing of most ulcers within 4-8 weeks
- Recommended maintenance therapy dose: 20 mg once daily
- Neonates: 0.5 mg/kg/dose maximum once daily up to 8 weeks
- Patients 1-16 years of age: Various dosage regimens for different conditions
Interaction
- No clinically important drug interactions
- No interaction with cytochrome P450-linked drug-metabolizing enzyme system
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any component of the drug
