Indications and Usage
- Treatment of chorea associated with Huntington's disease
Pharmacology
- VMAT-2 inhibitor
- Symptomatic treatment of hyperkinetic disorders
- Former antipsychotic drug
Dosage and Administration
- Can be taken with or without food

Interaction
- Strong CYP2D6 Inhibitors interaction
- Reserpine interaction
- No interaction with food
Contraindications
- Actively suicidal patients
- Untreated or undertreated depression
- Hepatic impairment
- Concurrent use of MAOIs or reserpine
- Concurrent use of deutetrabenazine or valbenazine
Side Effects
- Common adverse reactions: Sedation, fatigue, insomnia, depression, akathisia, anxiety, nausea
- Rare adverse reactions: Suicidal thoughts, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, pneumonia
Pregnancy and Lactation
- No adequate data on developmental risk in pregnant women
- No data on presence in human milk
Precautions and Warnings
- Periodic re-evaluation of benefit and adverse effects
- Maximum daily and single dose limits
- Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome treatment discontinuation
