Pharmacology
Regulates glucose metabolism, stimulates glucose ingestion and utilization, accelerates transformation from glucose to glycogen, inhibits gluconeogenesis
Dosage
Dependent on individual differences and affected by food, working style, and exercise intensity; average range of total daily insulin requirement for maintenance therapy
Administration
- Injected subcutaneously 15 minutes to one hour before a meal

Interaction
- Increased amount of insulin may be needed when using oral contraceptive drug, adrenal cortical hormone, thyroid hormone, etc.
- Insulin dosage should be reduced when using drugs with hypoglycemic activities, salicylate, sulfanilamide, and other anti-depressants

- Inadequate dosing or discontinuation may lead to hyperglycemia, Hypoglycemia may occur if the insulin dose is too high or due to omission of a meal or strenuous physical exercise
Overdose Effects
Excessive use may lead to hypoglycemia; immediate treatment required; frequent hypoglycemia consultation with doctor needed
