Pharmacology

Regulates glucose metabolism, stimulates glucose ingestion and utilization, accelerates transformation from glucose to glycogen, inhibits gluconeogenesis

Dosage

Dependent on individual differences and affected by food, working style, and exercise intensity; average range of total daily insulin requirement for maintenance therapy

Interaction

  • Increased amount of insulin may be needed when using oral contraceptive drug, adrenal cortical hormone, thyroid hormone, etc.
  • Insulin dosage should be reduced when using drugs with hypoglycemic activities, salicylate, sulfanilamide, and other anti-depressants

Overdose Effects

Excessive use may lead to hypoglycemia; immediate treatment required; frequent hypoglycemia consultation with doctor needed
