Description
- Bactericidal activity against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Effective treatment for respiratory tract infections, genito-urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal tract infections, and other infections
- Broad spectrum bactericidal activity
- Contains Trimethoprim and Sulphamethoxazole in a 1:5 combination
- Sequential blockade of two bacterial enzyme systems in the biosynthesis of folinic acid
- Dosage and administration instructions for mild to severe infections, long-term therapy, and gonorrhea treatment
- Contraindications for hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides, megaloblastic anemia, liver parenchymal damage, blood dyscrasia, severe renal insufficiency, and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
- Rare side effects such as crystalluria, allergic reactions, haemolysis, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis
- Less serious side effects include malaise, headache, nausea, vomiting
- Sulphonamides pass the placenta and are excreted in breast milk, posing risks during pregnancy and nursing
- Prolonged full dose treatment may be associated with the risk of macrocytic anemia
- Potentiation of action of sulphonylurea in diabetic patients
