Description
- An orally active cephalosporin antibiotic
- Marked in-vitro bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
- Indicated for the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI)
- Indicated for the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
- Indicated for the treatment of urinary tract infections
- Pharmacologically, a third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic
- Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
- Kills bacteria by interfering in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- Highly stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
- Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
- Recommended dosage for adults is 200-400 mg daily
- Dosage in renal impairment should be adjusted
- Caution advised for patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
