Indications

  • Treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma

Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary processes of the eye decreases aqueous humor secretion
  • Reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP)

Dosage & Administration

  • Shake well before use
  • Insert 1 drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily
  • Concomitant use with other topical ophthalmic products
  • Pediatric use: 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 2 times daily (4 weeks to 5 years age)
  • Geriatric use: No overall differences in safety or effectiveness observed between elderly and younger patients

Interaction

  • Rare instances of drug interactions with high-dose salicylate therapy in patients treated with oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of this product

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C
  • No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
  • Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
  • Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the baby

Precautions & Warnings

  • Sulfonamide drug
  • Absorbed systemically
  • Adverse reactions attributable to sulfonamides may occur
  • Fatalities rarely occurred due to severe reactions to sulfonamides
  • Sensitization may occur upon re-administration of a sulfonamide
  • Discontinue use if serious reactions or hypersensitivity occur
  • Not recommended in renal impairment patients
  • Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects

  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Development of an acidosis state
  • Possible nervous system effects following oral administration of an overdose
  • Monitor serum electrolyte levels (particularly potassium) and blood pH levels

Therapeutic Class

  • Drugs for miotics and glaucoma

Storage Conditions

  • Store at room temperature
  • Protect from light
  • Do not touch dropper tip to any surface
  • Contents should not be used more than four weeks after first opening of the bottle
  • Protect from freezing
