Description
- Empagliflozin is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease. It is a sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor, which reduces renal absorption of glucose, leading to increased glucose excretion and contributing to reduced hyperglycemia, weight loss, and reduced blood pressure. The recommended dose of Empagliflozin is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food, and may be increased to 25 mg once daily in patients tolerating it. It is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to Empagliflozin or any of its ingredients, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or dialysis.
