Description
Initer is a recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO) expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells. It has a 165 amino acid sequence identical to that of human urinary EPO.
Indications
- Treatment of anemia in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients on and not on dialysis
- Treatment of anemia in Zidovudine-treated HIV-infected patients
- Reduction of allogeneic RBC transfusions in noncardiac, nonvascular surgery patients
- Prevention of anemia of prematurity in infants with low birth weight and gestational age
Dosage
- Evaluation of iron stores and nutritional factors before and during treatment
- Monitoring hemoglobin levels regularly for CKD patients
- Initiating treatment based on hemoglobin levels for CKD patients on dialysis and not on dialysis, and Zidovudine-treated HIV-infected patients
- Dose adjustments based on hemoglobin response, with specific guidelines for CKD patients and cancer patients on chemotherapy

Interaction

Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension
