Indications and Uses
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeat courses of emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting

Pharmacological Action
Selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type
Mode of Action
Blocks initiation of vomiting reflex by antagonizing 5HT3 receptors
Interaction
Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components, concomitant use of apomorphine

Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus in animal studies
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats, caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported
- Not to be used as a stimulant for gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Caution in patients following abdominal surgery or with chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Special Population
- Renal Function: Dosage recommendation same as for general population
- Hepatic Function: Single maximal daily dose of 8 mg recommended in severe hepatic impairment
- 4 years of age or younger: Little information available
- Over the age of 65: No dosage adjustment needed
