Indications
- Carcinoma of the colon or rectum

- Cervical carcinoma
Pharmacology
- Inactive as such in mammalian cells
- Converted into the active 5-fluorodeoxyuridine monophosphate (FdUMP)
- Inhibits the enzyme thymidylate kinase
- Forms stable complex with the folate cofactor N-5, 10-methylene tetrahydrofolate
- Incorporated into RNA
- Limited mainly to proliferative phase of cells
- Affects cells in G2 and S phase

- Intravenous delivery by rapid bolus injection or slow infusion
