Indications

Pharmacology

  • Inactive as such in mammalian cells
  • Converted into the active 5-fluorodeoxyuridine monophosphate (FdUMP)
  • Inhibits the enzyme thymidylate kinase
  • Forms stable complex with the folate cofactor N-5, 10-methylene tetrahydrofolate
  • Incorporated into RNA
  • Limited mainly to proliferative phase of cells
  • Affects cells in G2 and S phase
