Soricap 25 mg (Capsule)

Indications

• Severe extensive psoriasis therapy
• Palmo-plantar pustular psoriasis
• Severe congenital ichthyosis
• Severe Darier's disease

Pharmacology

• Retinoid
• Modulation of RNA/DNA synthesis
• Epidermal proliferation regulation
• Glycoprotein synthesis
• Modulation of immune response
• Cellular differentiation modulation

Dosage & Administration

• Adult and elderly initial daily dose of 25mg or 30mg
• Daily dosage of 25-50mg for 6-8 weeks
• Maximum dosage of 75mg/day
• Starting dose of 10mg for Darier’s disease
• Children's daily dosage of about 0.5mg/kg

Interaction

• Concurrent intake of Soricap with ethanol leads to formation of etretinate
• Contraindication with methotrexate, tetracyclines, and vitamin A
• Reduced protein binding of phenytoin
• Effect on protein binding of anticoagulants

Contraindications

• Highly teratogenic for pregnant women
• Contraindicated for women of childbearing potential without strict contraception
• Severe hepatic or renal impairment
• Chronic elevated blood lipid values
• Hypersensitivity to acitretin or other retinoids

Side Effects

• Dose-related side effects
• Initial worsening of psoriasis symptoms
• Mainly affects skin and mucous membranes

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Contradicted for pregnant and nursing women
• Highly teratogenic

Precautions & Warnings

• Exceptionally high risk of birth defects
• Enhanced effects of UV light
• Monitoring of hepatic function and serum cholesterol/triglycerides
• Alteration of glucose tolerance
• Possibility of alopecia
• Effects on night vision

Overdose Effects

• Manifestations of acute Vitamin A toxicity
• Similar signs and symptoms of overdosage as Vitamin A
• Low acute toxicity
