Indications
- Topical treatment of acne vulgaris
Pharmacology
- Adapalene acts on retinoid receptors in the skin
- Modulator of cellular differentiation, keratinization, and inflammatory processes
- Decreased microcomedone formation
Dosage
- Adapalene 0.1% for affected areas, once daily at night
- Adapalene 0.3% for entire face and affected areas, once daily in the evening
- Not established for children below 12 years
Administration
- Apply a thin film of gel or cream to affected skin areas
Interaction
- Caution with concomitant use of potentially irritating topical products
- Exercise particular caution with sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid preparations
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Adapalene or its components
Side Effects
- Erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritus, burning sensation, skin irritation, acne flares
- Lessen with continued use of the medication
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy if benefit justifies potential risk
- Caution with nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Do not apply to cuts, abrasions, eczematous, or sunburned skin
