Indications
- Treatment of active duodenal ulcer
- Benign gastric ulcer
- Ulcer associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent
- Post operative stress ulcer
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Gastro-intestinal hemorrhage from stress ulcer
- Recurrent hemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcer
- Preventive treatment before general anesthesia
Pharmacology
Competitively blocks histamine at H2-receptors of the gastric parietal cells, inhibits gastric acid secretion, does not affect pepsin secretion, pentagastrin-stimulated intrinsic factor secretion or serum gastrin

Interaction
Delayed absorption and increased peak serum concentration with propantheline bromide, minimal inhibition of hepatic metabolism of certain drugs, alteration of absorption of pH-dependent drugs, reduction of bioavailability with antacids
