Pharmacology

  • Non-systemic acid neutralizing substances
  • Antiflatulent properties
  • Relief of ulcers by neutralizing gastric acid
  • Simethicone's antifoam properties
  • Physiologically inert and not absorbed from the GI tract

Dosage & Administration

  • 1-2 tablets 1-3 hours after meal and at bedtime
  • 1-2 teaspoonful of suspension 1-3 hours after meal and at bedtime

Interaction

  • May affect absorption of concomitantly administered oral drugs
  • Decrease bioavailability of certain drugs
  • Increase bioavailability of some drugs

Contraindications

  • Patients with renal failure
  • Patients with hypophosphataemia
  • Patients who are severely debilitated
  • Alkalosis and hypermagnesaemia

Side Effects

  • Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects
  • Occasional diarrhea, constipation, regurgitation with excessive consumption

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoid in the first trimester of pregnancy

  • Caution in patients with kidney disease
