- Dihydropyridine calcium-channel blocker
- Long duration of action

Dosage & Administration
- Usual dose 5 mg once daily
- Maximum dose 10 mg once daily
- May be taken without regard to meals
Interaction
- Potentially hazardous interactions with p-blockers
- No interaction with Digoxin
- No interaction with Cimetidine
- No significant alteration with Warfarin
- Food does not alter absorption
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dihydropyridine derivatives
- Pregnant women

Use in Special Populations
- Special dosage for children with hypertension
- Dosage for elderly
- No studied dosage for pediatric patients over 6 years
- Use with caution in renal impairment
- Start at lowest dose for severe hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- Excessive peripheral vasodilatation
- Reflex tachycardia
- Systemic hypotension
- Shock
- Clinically significant hypotension
- Active cardiovascular support needed
- Elevation of extremities
- Monitoring of cardiac and respiratory function
- Vasoconstrictor may be helpful
- Intravenous calcium gluconate may be beneficial
- Gastric lavage may be worthwhile
- Use of charcoal within 2 hours can reduce absorption rate
