Description
- Aripiprazole medication indicated for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, irritability associated with autistic disorder, and agitation associated with schizophrenia or bipolar mania
Indications

Mode of Action
- Partial agonist activity at Dopamine D2 receptors
- Partial agonist activity at Serotonin 5-HT 1A receptors
- Antagonist activity at Serotonin 5-HT 2A receptors
Dosage
- Initial dose range for schizophrenia in adults: 10-15 mg/day
- Recommended dose for bipolar mania in adults: 15 mg/day
- Maximum dose for all indications: 30 mg/day
Administration
- Oral formulations administered once daily without regard to meals
- IM injection with a minimum 2-hour interval between doses, maximum daily dose 30 mg
Interactions
- Caution with other centrally acting drugs and alcohol
- Carbamazepine may increase Aripiprazole clearance
- Ketoconazole, quinidine, fluoxetine or paroxetine may inhibit Aripiprazole elimination

- Known hypersensitivity to Aripiprazole

Precautions & Warnings
- Increased incidence of cerebrovascular adverse events in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis
- Increased risk of suicidality with antidepressants in children, adolescents, and adults with major depressive disorder
- Discontinue if clinically appropriate for tardive dyskinesia
- Atypical antipsychotic drugs associated with metabolic changes
- Use with caution in patients with known cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease
- Use cautiously in patients with a history of seizures
- Caution when operating machinery
Overdose Effects
- No fatalities observed with doses up to 1080 mg
- Signs and symptoms include nausea, vomiting, asthenia, diarrhea, and somnolence
