Indications

Pharmacology
- Combination of Imipenem and Cilastatin
- Imipenem is a penem antibacterial drug
- Cilastatin sodium is a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor
- Bactericidal activity resulting from the inhibition of cell wall synthesis
- High stability in the presence of beta-lactamases
Dosage & Administration - Adult Patients
- Dosage based on suspected or confirmed pathogen susceptibility
- Recommended dosage regimens for normal renal function
- Reduction in dose for patients with decreased renal function
Dosage & Administration - Pediatric Patients
- Dosage for pediatric patients for non-CNS infections
- Doses less than or equal to 500 mg should be given by intravenous infusion over 20 to 30 minutes
Interaction
- Concurrent administration with probenecid may increase the half-life of cilastatin
- Increased risk of generalized seizures when used concurrently with ganciclovir
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of this combination

- Phlebitis
- Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting
- Rash, pruritus, urticaria
- Pain at injection site, erythema at injection site, vein induration
- Fever
- Hypotension
- Seizures, dizziness, somnolence
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk
- Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients receiving therapy with beta-lactams
- Seizures and other CNS adverse reactions reported during treatment with Imipenem

Reconstitution
- Reconstitution and Preparation of Imipenem Solution for Intravenous Administration
- Do not use diluents containing benzyl alcohol for neonates
- Reconstituted solutions range from colorless to yellow
- Reconstituted suspension must not be administered by direct intravenous infusion
- Storage of reconstituted solutions for 4 hours at room temperature or for 24 hours under refrigeration

- Store at or below 25°C temperature
- Keep away from light and wet place
- Keep out of reach of children
