Indications
- Management of hypertension
- Long-term management of angina pectoris

Pharmacology
- Beta1 selective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist
- No effect on beta2-receptors
- Highly hydrophilic
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 50 mg for hypertension
- Initial dose of 50 mg for angina pectoris
- Intravenous administration for acute myocardial infarction
Interactions
- Additive effect with catecholamine-depleting drugs
- Additive effect with calcium channel blockers
- Potential negative effects with disopyramide and amiodarone
Contraindications
- Sinus bradycardia
- Cardiogenic shock
- Overt cardiac failure
- Hypersensitivity to atenolol or its components
