Indications
- treatment of hypertension

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- recommended dose for adults
- consider starting dose for patients treated with high doses of diuretics
- additional blood pressure reduction with other antihypertensive agents
Interaction
- no observed drug interactions with specific drugs
- potential attenuation of antihypertensive effect by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- risk of hypotension, hyperkalemia, and changes in renal function with dual blockade of the RAS
Contraindications
- contraindicated co-administration with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes
Side Effects
- common adverse reaction of diarrhea
- other side effects including nausea, asthenia, fatigue, muscle spasm, dizziness, and cough

- Pregnancy Category D
- risk to fetus in second or third trimester
- potential excretion of Azilsartan Medoxomil in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- reduced fetal renal function and increased fetal and neonatal morbidity and death during second and third trimesters of pregnancy
- potential hypotension in intravascularly volume-depleted patients
- changes in renal function including renal failure in renal impaired patient
Use in Special Populations
- neonatal effects with in utero exposure to Azilsartan
- safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients under 18 years of age
- no dose adjustment in elderly patients
- no dose adjustment in patients with mild-to-severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease
- no dose adjustment in subjects with mild or moderate hepatic impairment
Overdose Effects
- limited data on overdose in humans
- supportive therapy in the event of an overdose
- Tanzil is not dialyzable
