Description
- Histamine analog
- Improves circulation in the inner ear
- Reduces pressure on the membranous labyrinth
Pharmacology
- Acts as a histamine H1-receptor agonist
- Vasodilatory effect
- Increases permeability of blood vessels
- Reduces endolymphatic pressure
- Increases vestibulocochlear blood flow
- Acts as a histamine H3-receptor antagonist
- Elevates levels of neurotransmitters including serotonin
Dosage & Administration
- Initial oral treatment: 8 to 16mg three times daily
- Maintenance doses: 24-48 mg daily
- Dose not to exceed 48mg
- Dosage adjustments for individual patient needs
- Improvement may take a couple of weeks
- No data for hepatic impairment
- No data for renal impairment
- Limited data in the elderly
- Not recommended for children and adolescents below age 18
Interaction
- No proven cases of hazardous interactions
- Reported interaction with ethanol and pyrimethamine with dapsone
- Potentiation with salbutamol
- Mutual attenuation with H1 antagonists

- Phaeochromocytoma
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with peptic ulcer or history of peptic ulceration
- Caution in patients with bronchial asthma
- Caution in patients with urticaria, rashes, or allergic rhinitis
- Caution in patients with severe hypotension
- Not for patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption
- Rare reports of drowsiness
- Caution with activities requiring concentration
