Pharmacology

  • Synthetic adrenocorticosteroid

Dosage & Administration

  • Apply sparingly to the affected area
  • Two or three times daily until improvement occurs
  • Twice daily or less after improvement
  • Maximum therapy duration of three weeks

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any ingredients
  • Rosaceae & acne vulgaris
  • Perioral dermatitis, perianal & genital pruritis
  • Viral infections of the skin (e.g. herpes simplex & chicken pox)
  • Primary infected skin lesions caused by fungi or bacteria
  • Dermatoses in children under one year of age

Pregnancy & Lactation

Should not be used extensively in pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings

  • Signs of hypersensitivity - stop application
  • Avoid long-term continuous topical therapy, especially in children
  • Adrenal suppression may occur without occlusion
  • Systemic absorption may produce symptoms of hypercortisolism
  • Atrophic changes after prolonged treatment
  • Avoid application to eyelids to prevent glaucoma
  • Withdrawal of topical corticosteroid therapy if spread of infection occurs
