Indications
- Eczema treatment for children and adults
- Treatment for infantile and discoid eczema
- Management of prurigo nodularis
- Psoriasis treatment (excluding wide spread plaque psoriasis)
- Management of neurodermatoses including lichen simplex and lichen planus
- Seborrheic dermatitis treatment
- Treatment for contact sensitivity reaction
- Adjunct to systemic steroid therapy in generalized erythroderma
Pharmacology
- Synthetic adrenocorticosteroid
- Glucocorticoid in nature
- Slight degree of mineral corticosteroid activity
- Anti-inflammatory
- Antipruritic
- Vasoconstrictive activity
Dosage & Administration
- Apply sparingly to affected area
- Two or three times daily initially, then reduce to twice daily or less
- Usual maximum duration of therapy is three weeks
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the preparation
- Contraindicated in rosacea & acne vulgaris
- Contraindicated in perioral dermatitis, perianal & genital pruritus
- Contraindicated in viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex & chicken pox)
- Contraindicated in primary infected skin lesions caused by fungi or bacteria
- Contraindicated in dermatoses in children under one year of age

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should not be used extensively in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Signs of hypersensitivity should prompt cessation of application
- Long term continuous topical therapy should be avoided, especially in children
- Adrenal suppression may occur without occlusion
- Extensive area treatment may lead to systemic absorption and hypercortisolism
- Atrophic changes may occur after prolonged treatment on the face or other areas of the body
- Care is needed to prevent entry into the eye, as glaucoma might result
- Spread of infection requires withdrawal of topical corticosteroid therapy
