Indications
- Treatment of superficial infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Treatment of burns, wounds, ulceration, otitis externa, postoperative infections, neuro-dermatitis, eczema
Pharmacology
- Betamethasone as active topical corticosteroid
- Neomycin Sulfate as a broad-spectrum bactericidal amino-glycoside
- Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Useful in hairy and intertriginous places
- Effective for the treatment of wet skin ulceration
Dosage & Administration
- Applied as a thin layer 3 to 4 times daily in adults
- Gradual withdrawal in chronic conditions
- Not recommended for children under 1 year
- Limited course of treatment for children
- Dosage as directed by physician
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components
- Not for use in otitis externa with perforated eardrum
- Not for use in skin lesions caused by viruses and fungi
Side Effects
- Well tolerated, but prolonged and high doses may cause Cushing's syndrome, acne, thinning and dilatation of blood vessels
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not to be extensively used in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous topical therapy to prevent resistant microorganisms
- Accurate dosage in infected areas only
