Indications

Pharmacology

  • Bisoprolol Fumarate and Hydrochlorothiazide combination for hypertension
  • Antihypertensive effects of Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Bisoprolol as a β1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent
  • Hydrochlorothiazide as a benzothiadiazine diuretic

Dosage & Administration

  • Effective doses of Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Initial therapy with 2.5/6.25 mg tablet once daily
  • Subsequent titration at 14-day intervals
  • Max recommended dose of 20/12.5 mg once daily
  • Therapy guided by clinical effect

Interaction

  • Potentiation of other antihypertensive agents
  • Not to be combined with other beta-blocking agents
  • Cautious use with myocardial depressants or AV conduction inhibitors

Contraindications

  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Overt cardiac failure
  • Second or third degree AV block
  • Marked sinus bradycardia
  • Anuria
  • Hypersensitivity to either component or to other sulfonamide-derived drugs

Precautions & Warnings

  • Hyperuricemia or acute gout risk
  • Warning signs of fluid and electrolyte imbalance
  • Hypokalemia may develop
  • Gradual withdrawal of therapy
  • Fluid and electrolyte imbalance monitoring

Overdose Effects

  • Expected signs of overdose with beta-blocker
  • Lethargy and severe effects
  • Rare acute intoxication with thiazide diuretics
  • Signs and symptoms of overdose
