Indications
- Treatment of Hypertension
Pharmacology
- Additive antihypertensive effects
- Low incidence of hypokalemia
- Bisoprolol Fumarate: β1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent
- Hydrochlorothiazide: Benzothiadiazine diuretic
Dosage & Administration
- Effective doses of Bisoprolol: 2.5 to 40 mg
- Effective doses of Hydrochlorothiazide: 12.5 to 50 mg
- Antihypertensive effects increase with increasing doses
- Initial therapy with one 2.5/6.25 mg tablet once daily
- Maximum recommended dose: 20/12.5 mg once daily
Interaction
- Potentiation of action of other antihypertensive agents
- Should not be combined with other beta-blocking agents
- Close monitoring with catecholamine-depleting drugs
- Caution with myocardial depressants or inhibitors of AV conduction
- Increased risk of bradycardia with concomitant use of digitalis glycosides and beta-blockers
Contraindications
- Cardiogenic shock
- Overt cardiac failure
- Second or third degree AV block
- Marked sinus bradycardia
- Anuria
- Hypersensitivity to either component or other sulfonamide-derived drugs

Precautions & Warnings
- Potential for hyperuricemia or acute gout
- Warning signs of fluid and electrolyte imbalance
- Development of hypokalemia
- Gradual withdrawal of therapy recommended
- Careful observation of patients
Overdose Effects
- Bradycardia and hypotension
- Lethargy
- Delirium, coma, convulsions, respiratory arrest with severe overdoses
- Congestive heart failure, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia may occur
- Acute loss of fluid and electrolytes
- Cardiovascular, neuromuscular, gastrointestinal, renal, and laboratory signs and symptoms
