Indications

  • Treatment of Hypertension

Pharmacology

  • Additive antihypertensive effects
  • Beta1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent
  • Benzothiadiazine diuretic
  • Affects renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption
  • Increases excretion of sodium and chloride

Dosage & Administration

  • Effective in once-daily doses of 2.5 to 40 mg for Bisoprolol
  • Effective in doses of 12.5 to 50 mg for Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Antihypertensive effects increase with increasing doses
  • Initial therapy with one 2.5/6.25 mg tablet once daily
  • Subsequent titration at 14-day intervals
  • Replacement therapy for titrated individual components
  • Therapy guided by clinical effect

Interaction

  • Potentiates action of other antihypertensive agents
  • Not to be combined with other beta-blocking agents
  • Closely monitored with catecholamine-depleting drugs
  • Used with caution when myocardial depressants or inhibitors of AV conduction are used concurrently

  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Overt cardiac failure
  • Second or third degree AV block
  • Marked sinus bradycardia
  • Anuria
  • Hypersensitivity to either component of the product

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Hyperuricemia or acute gout may be precipitated in certain patients
  • Warning signs or symptoms of fluid and electrolyte imbalance
  • Hypokalemia may develop
  • Gradual withdrawal of therapy planned
  • Patients should be carefully observed
