Indications
- Treatment of postoperative inflammation
- Reduction of ocular pain
- Patients who have undergone cataract extraction
Pharmacology
- Preparation of Bromfenac ophthalmic solution
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Anti-inflammatory activity
- Ability to block prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase 1 and 2
- Mediators of certain kinds of intraocular inflammation
Dosage & Administration
- One drop of ophthalmic solution applied once daily
- Beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery
- Continued on the day of surgery
- Through the first 14 days of the postoperative period
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the formulation
Side Effects
- Abnormal sensation in eye
- Conjunctival hyperemia
- Eye irritation (including burning/stinging)
- Eye pain
- Eye pruritus
- Eye redness
- Headache
- Iritis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
- Caution when administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Topical NSAIDs may slow or delay healing
- Topical corticosteroids are known to slow or delay healing
- Concomitant use of topical NSAIDs and topical steroids may increase the potential for healing problems
- Use with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies
- Use with caution in patients receiving other medications which may prolong bleeding time

Storage Conditions
- Store in a cool (below 30°C), dry place and away from light
- Keep out of reach of children
- Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and solution
- Do not touch the eyelids, surrounding areas, finger or other surfaces with the dropper tip
- Tightly close the bottle when not in use
- Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
