Indications

Treatment of postoperative inflammation
Reduction of ocular pain
Patients who have undergone cataract extraction

Pharmacology

Preparation of Bromfenac ophthalmic solution
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
Anti-inflammatory activity
Ability to block prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase 1 and 2
Mediators of certain kinds of intraocular inflammation

Dosage & Administration

One drop of ophthalmic solution applied once daily
Beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery
Continued on the day of surgery
Through the first 14 days of the postoperative period

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the formulation

Side Effects

Abnormal sensation in eye
Conjunctival hyperemia
Eye irritation (including burning/stinging)
Eye pain
Eye pruritus
Eye redness
Headache
Iritis

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category C
No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
Caution when administered to a nursing woman

Precautions & Warnings

Topical NSAIDs may slow or delay healing
Topical corticosteroids are known to slow or delay healing
Concomitant use of topical NSAIDs and topical steroids may increase the potential for healing problems
Use with caution in patients with known bleeding tendencies
Use with caution in patients receiving other medications which may prolong bleeding time

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool (below 30°C), dry place and away from light
Keep out of reach of children
Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and solution
Do not touch the eyelids, surrounding areas, finger or other surfaces with the dropper tip
Tightly close the bottle when not in use
Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
