Indications

Relieves dry cough
Pre & post-operative cough sedation
Acute cough of any etiology
Whooping cough
Cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections

Pharmacology

Acts directly on the brain's cough center to suppress cough
Safe and non-sedating
Not related to opium alkaloids
Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration
Maximum concentration reached within 9 hours
Extremely protein-bound
Plasma elimination half-life is about 13 hours
Active metabolites also have antitussive action

Dosage & Administration

Adult dosage: 2-3 tablets daily
Adult dosage: 15 ml syrup 4 times daily
Adolescent dosage: 1-2 tablets daily
Children dosage (3-6 yrs): 5 ml syrup 3 times daily
Children dosage (6-12 yrs): 10 ml syrup 3 times daily
Adolescent dosage: 15 ml syrup 3 times daily
Children dosage (2 months-1 yr): 0.50 ml pediatric drops 4 times daily
Children dosage (1-3 yrs): 0.75 ml pediatric drops 4 times daily

Interaction

Avoid concomitant use with expectorants

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid use during the first trimester of pregnancy
Caution in remainder of pregnancy if indicated by a physician

Precautions & Warnings

Suppresses cough reflex
Avoid concomitant use with expectorants
Consult doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days (3 days in children <12 yrs)
