Indications

Pharmacology

  • Acts directly on the brain's cough center

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage: 2-3 tablets daily for Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet
  • Adult dosage: 15 ml 4 times daily for Butamirate Citrate syrup
  • Adolescent dosage: 1-2 tablets daily for Butamirate Citrate 50 mg tablet
  • Children (3-6 yrs) dosage: 5 ml 3 times daily for Butamirate Citrate syrup
  • Children (6-12 yrs) dosage: 10 ml 3 times daily for Butamirate Citrate syrup
  • Adolescent dosage: 15 ml 3 times daily for Butamirate Citrate syrup
  • Children (2 months-1 yrs) dosage: 0.50 ml 4 times daily for Butamirate Citrate pediatric drops
  • Children (1-3 yrs) dosage: 0.75 ml 4 times daily for Butamirate Citrate pediatric drops

Interaction

Concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

Side Effects

  • Tolerance of Butasiv is good
  • Adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo have been observed in rare cases

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Not to be used during the first trimester of pregnancy
  • Can be used with caution during the remainder of pregnancy
  • Caution needed for breastfeeding mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Should not be used concomitantly with expectorants
  • Consult a doctor if the cough persists for more than 7 days

Overdose Effects

  • Accidental overdose can cause drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, and hypotension
  • Standard emergency procedures should be followed
