Description
- Tussibic is used to relieve dry (non-productive) cough. It is also used for pre & post-operative cough sedation in patients who will undergo surgical procedures and bronchoscopy. It can be used in the acute cough of any etiology, whooping cough, and cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections (tracheitis, laryngitis, bronchitis) etc. Butamirate Citrate acts directly on the brain's cough center to suppress cough. It is safe and non-sedating and is rapidly and completely absorbed after oral administration. The active metabolites of Butamirate Citrate have antitussive action. The dosage and administration vary for adults, children, and adolescents. The concomitant use with expectorants should be avoided. It should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy and with caution during the remainder of pregnancy and lactation. Tussibic suppresses the cough reflex, and its overdose can cause symptoms like drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and loss of balance. It belongs to the therapeutic class of cough suppressants and should be stored away from light and moisture below 30°C.
