Composition

  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source)
  • Equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
  • Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source)
  • Equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
  • Effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg
  • Equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP

  • Clinical evidence suggests calcium is useful for the prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis
  • Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption from the GI tract
  • Vitamin D stimulates bone formation
  • Synergistic effects of Calcium and vitamin D on bone growth, Osteoporosis, and fracture prevention

  • Vitamin D3 aids in absorption and maintaining calcium balance

Dosage & Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
  • Effervescent tablet to be dissolved in a glass of water and taken orally

Interactions

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
  • Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
  • Hypercalcaemia risk with concomitant use of certain medications

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the components
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Vitamin D at therapeutic doses is not teratogenic in humans
  • Use during pregnancy and breast-feeding with caution

Precautions & Warnings

  • Long-term treatment requires serum calcium level monitoring
  • Renal function monitoring in elderly patients and those on specific treatments
  • Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
  • Consideration for patients suffering from sarcoidosis
  • Caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
  • Close medical supervision for additional doses of calcium or vitamin D

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
  • Symptoms include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, and in severe cases, cardiac arrhythmias
  • Treatment protocols for hypercalcaemia
