Pharmacology

  • Preparation of Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3
  • Calcium necessary for bone formation and maintenance
  • Vitamin D3 aids in absorption & reabsorption of Calcium
  • Stimulates bone formation
  • Aids in bone growth
  • Prevention of osteoporosis & bone fracture

Dosage & Administration

  • Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU Tablet: 2 tablets daily or 1 tablet twice daily
  • Best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption
  • Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU Tablet: 1 tablet twice daily

Interaction

  • Possible interaction with calcium, aluminium or magnesium containing antacids
  • Possible interaction with other calcium supplements
  • Possible interaction with calcitriol & other vitamin D3 supplements
  • Possible interaction with digoxin
  • Possible interaction with tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline or oxytetracycline

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in hypercalcaemia
  • Contraindicated in hyperthyroidism
  • Contraindicated in renal calculi & nephrolithiasis
  • Contraindicated in Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Side Effects

  • Well tolerated in general
  • Potential side effects: nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, increased urination
  • Constipation may occur

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use as directed by physician during pregnancy or while breast-feeding

Precautions & Warnings

  • Precautions for pre-existing heart disease
  • Precautions for pre-existing kidney disease

Overdose Effects

  • Symptoms of overdosage may include: nausea and vomiting, severe drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, stomach cramps, diarrhea, headache, constipation
