Description
- Ostorate Calcium Orotate is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, postmenopausal osteoporosis, inflammatory diseases, and more.
- Contains Calcium Orotate with orotic acid for enhanced cellular uptake of calcium and maintenance of healthy cartilage.
- Available in 400mg and 740mg dosage forms.
- Interactions with certain drugs like biphosphonates, quinolone antibiotics, and corticosteroids should be considered.
Dosage and Administration
- 400mg: 2-3 tablets with meal or as directed by physician
- 740mg: 1-2 tablets with meal or as directed by physician
Mode of Action
- Calcium Orotate aids in the intracellular uptake of calcium and assists in the synthesis of DNA and RNA for improved bone health.
Indications
- Used to fulfill calcium deficiency, treat osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and postmenopausal osteoporosis.
- Also indicated for inflammatory diseases, weight control, cognitive enhancement, and heart protection.
Interaction
- May decrease absorption of biphosphonates, quinolone antibiotics, and tetracycline antibiotics when taken together.
- Thiazide-type diuretics can interact with Ostorate supplements, increasing the risks of hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria.
Contraindications
- Not recommended for individuals with kidney stones, kidney disease, high amounts of calcium in urine or blood, or extreme loss of body water.
Side Effects
- Common side effects include bloating, swelling, upset stomach, constipation, nausea, vomiting, and weakness.
- Unusual weight loss, increased thirst/urination, and formation of kidney stones may occur infrequently.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Supplemental forms of Calcium Orotate can help reduce the risk of pregnancy-related high blood pressure for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
