Indications
- Prevention of uterine atony
- Prevention of postpartum haemorrhage

Pharmacology
- Analogue of oxytocin
- Causes contraction of the uterus
- Binds to oxytocin receptors

Dosage & Administration
- Single intravenous dose
- 100 mcg of carbetocin injection
- Bolus injection
- Slow administration over 1 minute

Contraindications
- Inappropriate use during pregnancy

Precautions & Warnings
- Aggressive treatment with additional doses of oxytocin or ergometrine if inadequate uterine contraction
- Risk of hyponatremia
- Cautious use in epilepsy, migraine, asthma
- Monitoring for changes in blood pressure in eclampsia and pre-eclampsia
- Not recommended for elderly patients
