Indications
- Initial treatment of advanced ovarian carcinoma of epithelial origin
- Palliative treatment of recurrent ovarian carcinoma after prior chemotherapy
Pharmacology
- Alkylating agent
- Binds covalently to DNA
- Modifies cell cycle
- Interferes with DNA structure and function
Dosage & Administration
- Administered by intravenous route only
- Recommended dosage of 400 mg/m2 as a single I.V. dose
- Therapy should not be repeated until four weeks after previous course
- Dosage adjustment recommended for patients with risk factors
Interaction
- Should not be mixed with other drugs
- Potentiation of renal effects of neurotoxic compounds
Contraindications
- Pre-existing severe renal impairment
- Severe myelosuppression
- History of severe allergic reactions to Carboplatin
- Bleeding tumors

Precautions & Warnings
- Administered under supervision of qualified physician experienced in use of cancer chemotherapeutic agents
- Close monitoring of peripheral blood counts and renal and hepatic function tests
- Discontinue if abnormal depression of bone marrow or renal/hepatic function is seen
- Nephrotoxic potential and myelotoxicity
- Frequent monitoring of peripheral blood counts
- Careful planning of combination therapy
- Supportive transfusional therapy
- Premedication with antiemetics
- Avoid combining with nephrotoxic compounds
- Management of allergic reactions
