Description
Oticlor is an antibiotic used for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, and other related conditions. It is a second generation cephalosporin with stability against b-lactamase inactivation and possesses a broad spectrum of activity. The drug is available in capsule, powder for suspension, and pediatric drops forms, and has specific dosage and administration guidelines for adults and pediatric patients. Oticlor may interact with oral anticoagulants and has contraindications for patients with known allergy to the Cephalosporin group of antibiotics. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal symptoms, transient hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, fever, abdominal pain, superinfection, renal dysfunction, and others. Precautions should be taken when prescribing Oticlor, especially in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, and careful inquiry regarding previous hypersensitivity reactions is essential. Additionally, the drug should be stored at room temperature and protected from light, with specific reconstitution guidelines for powder for suspension and pediatric drops.
