Indications
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
- Urinary Tract Infections
- Clinical efficacy against Streptococcus pneumonia
- Clinical efficacy against Streptococcus pyogenes
- High stability in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes
Pharmacology
- Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- High stability in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
- About 40%-50% absorption with or without food
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days
- Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended pediatric dosage based on weight and age
- Dosage adjustment in severe renal impairment
- Administered with caution in patients with marked renal impairment
Interaction
- Potential to increase prothrombin times in some patients
- Caution required in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
