Description
Cemaxi is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI), Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections, and other acute infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It has bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

- Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued for up to 14 days if required
- Recommended adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended children dosage: 8 mg/kg/day
- Dosage adjustments in renal impairment
- Interaction:
- Potential increase in prothrombin times in some patients
- Caution in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy
- Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
- Side Effects:
- Gastrointestinal disturbances: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain
- Central nervous system effects: headache, dizziness
- Hypersensitivity reactions: rash, pruritis, urticaria
- Hematological and clinical chemistry effects: thrombocytopenia, leukopenia
- Mild transient change in liver and renal function tests

- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed

- Precautions & Warnings:
- Caution in patients with hypersensitivity to other drugs
- Caution in penicillin-sensitive patients
- Administration with caution in patients with markedly impaired renal function
- Overdose Effects:
- Gastric Lavage may be indicated
- No specific antidote exists
- Adverse reactions in healthy volunteers receiving single doses up to 2 g were similar to those seen in patients treated at recommended doses
