Functionality

  • Bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days, may be continued for up to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily according to the severity of the infection
  • Recommended dosage for children is 8 mg/kg/day administered as a single dose or in two divided doses
  • Dosage should be adjusted in severe renal impairment
  • Usual dosage for children 5-10 years: 10 ml daily

  • Mild and self-limiting adverse reactions observed in clinical trials
  • Most frequent side-effects are diarrhea and stool changes
  • Gastrointestinal side-effects include nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting
