Indications
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI)
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
- Urinary Tract Infections
Bactericidal activity
- Marked in-vitro bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
Bacterial susceptibility
- Clinical efficacy against Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella species, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Enterobacter species
Mode of action
- Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
- Highly stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
Absorption
- 40% to 50% whether administered with or without food
Dosage and administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days
- Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended dosage for children is 8 mg/kg/day
- Dosage in Renal Impairment guidelines
Interaction
- Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in some patients
- Care should be taken in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

- Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

Precautions and warnings
- Given with caution to patients who have shown hypersensitivity to other drugs
- Cautious use for penicillin-sensitive patients
- Administered with caution in patients with markedly impaired renal function
- Use in pregnancy and lactation precautions
Overdose effects
- Gastric Lavage may be indicated
- No specific antidote exists
- Not removed in significant quantities from the circulation by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis
