Description

  • Axeclav is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria.

Dosage & Administration

  • 250 mg tablet
  • Adolescents and adults (13 years and older)
  • Paediatric Patients (3 months to 12 years)
  • Can be taken without regard to food

Indications

  • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
  • Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis
  • Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
  • Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae
  • Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
  • Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
  • Bone and Joint Infections
  • Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea
  • Early Lyme Disease (erythema migrans)
  • Septicemia
  • Meningitis
  • Switch therapy (Injectable to oral)

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal action
  • Active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms
  • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis

Interaction

  • Concomitant administration with probenecid
  • Effect of drug that reduces gastric acidity

Contraindications

  • Known allergy to cephalosporin
  • Pseudomembranous Colitis
