  • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes

  • Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
  • Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumoniae caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella spp.
  • Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
  • Uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
  • Bone and Joint Infections
  • Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea
  • Early Lyme Disease
  • Septicemia
  • Meningitis
  • Switch therapy (Injectable to oral)

Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal
  • Interferes with transpeptidation process
  • Active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative susceptible organisms

Dosage Administration

  • Ranges from 250 mg to 1000 mg
  • Frequency ranges from b.i.d. to single dose
  • Duration ranges from 5 to 20 days
  • May be taken without regard of food

Interaction

  • Concomitant administration with probenecid increases the area under the serum concentration versus time curve by 50%
  • Reduced bioavailability with drug that reduces gastric acidity

Contraindications

  • Known allergy to cephalosporin
  • Pseudomembranous Colitis
