Pharmacology

  • Bactericidal second generation cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative susceptible organisms
  • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • 250 mg b.i.d. for adults
  • 20 mg/kg/day b.i.d. for paediatric patients

Interaction

  • Increased area under the serum concentration versus time curve with probenecid
  • Lower bioavailability with drugs that reduce gastric acidity
