Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with perennial allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Treatment of allergen induced asthma
Pharmacology
- Potent H1 receptor antagonist
- No significant anticholinergic effects
- No significant antiserotonic effects
- Inhibits histamine-mediated early phase of allergic reaction
- Reduces migration of inflammatory cells
- Reduces release of mediators associated with late phase of allergic reaction
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonfuls daily
- Children (6 years and older) dosage: 1 teaspoonful twice daily
- Children (2-6 years) dosage: 1 teaspoonful once daily
- Children (6 months to 2 years) dosage: 1/2 teaspoonful once daily
- Maximum dose for children (12-23 months): 1/2 teaspoonful every 12 hours
- Injectable dosage form for intravenous administration only
- Recommended dosage for adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 10 mg intravenously
- Recommended dosage for children (6 to 11 years) depending on symptom severity: 5 mg or 10 mg intravenously
- Recommended dosage for children (6 months to 5 years): 2.5 mg intravenously

- No clinically significant drug interactions found with Azithromycin
- No clinically significant drug interactions found with Pseudoephedrine
- No clinically significant drug interactions found with Ketoconazole
- No clinically significant drug interactions found with Erythromycin
- No significant drug interactions found with other drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Cetirizine
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine

- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Cautious use during pregnancy if clearly needed
- Cetirizine excreted in human milk, caution in nursing women

- Caution when driving or operating heavy machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Reduced clearance and increased half-life in patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment
- Reduced clearance and increased half-life in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment
- Plasma levels unaffected by hemodialysis
- Safety demonstrated in pediatric patients aged 6 months to 5 years
- Reduced clearance in elderly patients
